How to Select an Executive Education Program

1. Identify the development needs. Boil it down to the top three development needs, or in other words, "what are you trying to get from a program?" Typical answers are "learn how to be more strategic", "leading change", or some combination of functional knowledge (finance, sales, and marketing). There may be is a timeframe that's better or worse than others (i.e., next 6 months, avoid the summer, etc...)

2. Search your favorite executive education providers. Mine are listed on the left on my blog. These are programs I've used and have gotten positive feedback; they are also rated favorably by Business Week and the Financial Times. I start with The Center for Creative Leadership and Darden for leadership, Chicago's GSB for sales and marketing, Wharton and Chicago for finance, Harvard and Stanford for strategy, UCLA and CCL for non-majority programs, etc....

3. Once you find a couple potential programs, look for a good fit. Look at the recommended participant level, participant mix, industry mix, and company participation.

4. Check out the instructors, read the bios. Review the day by day agenda, topics, and activities. Again, you're looking for a good fit for the participant and his/her development needs. Talk to the provider's Exec Ed Director, or someone who can help you learn more about the programs.
Ask other's if they have experience with the program.

5. Talk to past participants if possible, or someone in charge of leadership/executive development development.

6. Geography can sometimes be a factor. Looking for a global experience? Than look for a good mix of global participants, or better yet, attend a program outside the U.S. Insead, IMD, and the London School of business are all excellent European choices. I've not found much in South America or Asia, but many of the top US programs now take place in Asia. If you want to network for some high tech leaders, then go to Silicon Valley (Berkeley, Stanford).

7. Length of program: Programs range anywhere from 2-3 days to 6 weeks. I honestly don't know how someone could afford to go to a 6 week program these days, unless they are on a sabbatical or their company is just trying to get rid of them for a while. I've found you need at least a week to have a true immersion experience. Some of those deep "ahas" don't happen until the 4th or 5th day. Two weeks seems to be perfect, with an opportunity to explore and recharge on weekends.

8. Check out the amenities'. All right, I know, this is a learning experience and not a vacation, but top notch food, accommodations, and surroundings all are part of the total experience. All of the schools on my list cater to executives - this actually ends up being a driver of participant satisfaction and the school's program rankings. Also see if the room and meals are included in the program.

9. Factors that should not be a part of a decision: alumni relationships, timing coinciding with the NCAA playoffs, and catchy program titles.

10. After all of this, narrow it down to 2-3 program, and then select based on best fit, timing, and costs.

These are often once in a life time experiences for most leaders. University executive education programs are a big investment, usually in the $7,000 - $40,000 price range. Clear your work and personal calendars, and immerse yourself in the week. This is a time to be 100% selfish, and focus on nothing but your own development as a leader. Your company, employees, co-workers, boss, and family will all benefit from the new and improved you! http://greatleadershipbydan.blogspot.com/

Why More And More People Decide To Engage Themselves To Online Education Programs?

People give much importance to education. We study to earn knowledge and enhance our skills that are needed in our everyday life. But sometimes starting school is daunting. Moving Into Or Out of a Career - Why an Educational Program May Waste Time

After ten years as a manager, "Elise" felt stuck. Her bosses kept telling her, "We can't promote you until you take more courses in finance." Elise took three finance courses and aced them. Her managers responded, "Now you need to take some marketing." Two courses later, Elise began to wonder, "Am I wasting my time?"

Elise's story is based on a true conversation, although the details are disguised. After we talked awhile, she said, "I think I need a new job - not more school." She was probably right.

Education has helped many mid-life, mid-career executives and professionals who want to change careers. I've met dozens of managers who used education for networking. Others acquire skills that moved their resumes past the slush pile, right to the inboxes of hiring managers. However, choices have to be made carefully.

-- Before beginning an educational program, talk to at least six people who have graduated in the last year. Older graduates entered a different market.

-- Talk to recent graduates who resemble you as much as possible. If you're in your forties or fifties, you probably can expect different outcomes than a twenty-something.

-- Ask those graduates for a "before and after" scenario. "I worked for X company in a field I like. Now I work I still work for that company but now I have earned a promotion." If you are considering a career change, your degree will play a very different role in your career. Some degree programs work well for a promotion in the same company, but will not help you gain credibility to start a new career in a new field.

-- Recognize that degree programs differ dramatically in reputation as well as requirements. Most advisors will tell you to choose an accredited university or program. However, unless you dig deeply, it's hard to tell whether a particular university's accreditation has meaning in the marketplace. Instead, talk to prospective employers and clients to learn which programs they value. Don't be surprised if they discourage you from taking certain steps.

-- Be skeptical of programs that seem too eager to recruit you or too easy once you get in. If all you need is a credit card, you won't gain prestige from graduation. If most students get straight-As, future employers won't place value on your degree. One employer told me, "I can't say anything about graduates of that University. Some are really good and some are terrible. I think it's because they accept everyone and give only good grades."

Career changers often have trouble learning about the role of education in career change. Choosing the wrong program can have serious consequences for your current as well as future career. The Forex Trading Education Program - Which Will Help Me Become Economically Secure the Quickest?

If you are considering taken a Forex education program before you start investing in the markets, then let me congratulate on your first intelligent decision regarding the Foreign Exchange Markets and lets hope there are many more to come. Because if there are many more to come you will be a very rich person shortly. The number one reason new investors fail to make money in the currency markets and drop out quickly is fairly obvious, they failed to learn Forex trading. The number two reason people fail is because they don't posses the correct tools to help them make educated trading decisions.

If you really desire to take the best class on the market today then the Forex mentoring programs are the way to go. They are also the most expensive, but as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for." These are instructed by professional Forex traders that have been making there living investing in the markets for years. My three favorites are the Forex Brotherhood, Fap Winner and Straight Forex. The all provide a comprehensive currency trading education and an over abundance of training materials.

Each of the courses has one on one sessions, where you are not only taught the finer points of trading the markets, but are also permitted to ask questions. If you are smart and play your cards right, these course can also pay for themselves. Near the end of each of these programs you also get to have one on one trading sessions with the pros advising you every step of the way. During these trading sessions you are permitted to utilize your own funds for the investments and keep the profits. More times than not, the profits you make from these trading sessions pay for the course itself. So, not only do you receive the best education available, you also get it for free. How are you going to beat that?

You can start researching the differences in the Forex trading education programs at many sites on the internet and then select the course that you fell will best suit you needs. Some take a more conservative approach to trading than others. Some allow you to build your own program of subjects that interest you. And still some others teach a specific method of trading that is taught no where else in the world. So there are many types of courses that will be sure to meet everybody needs. You can be positive you will be getting good value for you money if you enroll in one of the top rated programs and will shortly be one you way to rolling up the profits.

Get Off The Rat Race And Enroll In A Wealth Creation Education Program

Who does not want to be wealthy? The pursuit of wealth is a passion that drives many people. This is why many people in the corporate world burn themselves out as they run the rat race and climb the corporate ladder. This is why people with the most mediocre of talents would endure embarrassment just to make it big in show business. This is why people gamble at casinos or buy lottery tickets. These are the conventional paths that people take in order to strike at wealth.

There is no shortcut to being wealthy - or so the sages say. If you want to be wealthy, you have to work hard. But what if we prove the sages wrong and say that there is a shortcut to attaining riches? There is a proven way of earning money in such a way that you get to do the work only once. After you have done the work, all you need to do is to sit back and watch your earnings grow exponentially.

If you want to find out how this shortcut works, then you have to enroll in a wealth education program.

Why Enroll in a Wealth Creation Education Program?

Conventional wisdom teaches us that right after we graduate from school, we have to strive to get a good job that pays really well. Once we scored this job, we have to work hard to keep this job and to get promoted to a higher level until we reach the top level on the corporate ladder. After we retire from the careers we have built for ourselves, we can enjoy the fruits of our labor.

But why wait until we are 65 years old to enjoy life when we can do it much, much earlier? Life is a journey that must be done slowly and leisurely, or else we will miss out on the beautiful moments we could have savored along the way. Do we have to wait until we are 65 years old to be able to travel the world? Do we have to wait until retirement to be able to bask in the warmth of our families, to read the books that we want to read when we want to read them, to live our lives the way we had always wanted but could not because we are so busy with our jobs?

Life does not have to be the rat race. When you enroll in a wealth creation education program, you will find out the ways you can stop running the rat race and stroll along the path of life without having to worry about money.

Learn to Create Passive Income using a Wealth Education Program

There are many things you will learn when you get in a wealth education program, but the key idea is that you can be wealthy now and live the life you think you are supposed to live by developing passive income. Passive income is the fruit of work you will only do once and then enjoy for the rest of your life.

MBA And Tertiary Education Programs in China

With China becoming the 6th largest economy in 2004 and likely to rank 4th in 2005, this is likely to fuel further anxieties over the impact of China`s rising economic might for the world economic leaders. But for company executives and aspiring young entrepreneurs, it has become imperative to understand China so as to explore the increasing business opportunities in China.

One of the usual route for this is to study and build social networks at the leading Chinese universities. Latest available figures show that there were about 85,000 foreign students studying in China in 2002. Almost 500 Chinese universities, mainly in Shanghai and Bejing, accept foreign students. The top 5 universities with the largest foreign students are Beijing Language and Culture Center, Fudan, Peking, Tsinghua and Shanghai universities.

If you are planning to do a post-graduate MBA program while working in China, there are many learning organizations to choose from.

The University of Maryland`s Smith School of Business offers a degree, custom and certification programs at learning centers within Beijing and Shanghai. Smith`s first executive MBA program class started in Jan 2003 and graduated in spring 2004.

The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee`s School of Business Administration has recently launched an EMBA program in Beijing in partnership with Motorola for staff of Motorola`s China operations.

Together with the top-ranked Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, the University of British Columbia is also offering an International MBA in China. Besides having the same curriculam as its Canadian MBA, professors from the University of British Columbia teach all of the courses.

Another EMBA program is the Cass EMBA 2-year part-time off-campus program by City University from Britian which has been launched in collaboration with Bank of China and the Shanghai University of Finance & Economics.

Britain`s Nottingham University is the first foreign university to establish a physical campus in Ningbo in September 2004. Nottingham Ningbo`s degree is comparable with its degree from the British campus with all courses conducted in English.

The Chinese government is actively promoting more educational tie-ups in China to develop university graduates who will be better geared for the many multinational corporations operating in China and spearhead economic growth. Currently, there are about 700 such jointly managed educational programs in China.

With the many future and current leaders and managers in China enrolling in the many tertiary education and post-graduate MBA programs, it makes good career sense to take up these courses and build a social network which will be useful for operating within Chinese business community for the future.

A Guide To The Importance of Physical Education Programs

Physical activity offers a broad range of benefits, including the prevention of obesity, improved self confidence, and an overall sense of well-being. Physical education programs within the school setting can set the stage for how children view physical fitness, activity levels, and future health. Physical education programs also include general health and safety information in addition to providing opportunities for students to learn how to cooperate with one another in a team setting.

A Lifetime of Health

The school setting provides a structured atmosphere in which to incorporate physical health activities and ideally develop healthy habits for life. Studies indicate that promotion of a healthy lifestyle taught in physical education classes can influence long-term health benefits such as reduced rates of obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Perhaps just as importantly, physical education programs can teach students that physical activity can be fun. With a broad range of games and activities, children are exposed to forms of exercise that don't simply involve running around a track. Games and other activities incorporate teamwork, strategy, skill-building exercises, and fun.

Nutritional Information

Physical education classes are ideal for introducing basic nutritional concepts to children. Poor eating habits are common among many children and adolescents; however, a solid foundation in healthy eating choices can help lay the groundwork for improved food choices. Children who eat regular, healthy meals consisting of a wide range of food choices concentrate better in school and are less disruptive. Healthy eating also decreases the chances of children developing serious health problems early in life and reduces obesity rates among youth and into adulthood.

Life Skills

Physical education also provides an opportunity for children to develop critical life skills, such as problem solving, strategy, and working together. Many team sports require participants to work together to achieve a goal. Children also learn the basics of good sportsmanship and that there is much more to sports and physical activities than simply winning or losing. Sports require training, mental and physical preparation, and help build self-confidence.

Mental Health

Regular physical activity has shown to have many psychological and mental benefits in addition to the physical ones. For example, regular exercise can reduce feelings of depression and anxiety and promote an overall sense of well-being. The increased blood flow during exercise transports oxygen to all parts of the body, including the brain, which can help improve memory and reasoning skills. Conversely, a lack of oxygen, which can result from not enough deep breathing, can lead to disorientation, confusion, fatigue, and memory and concentration difficulties.

Green Degrees With Community College Continuing Education Programs

Green collar jobs are all the rage today. If the term green is a bit mystifying, it's a step up from blue, but just not white yet. Green indicates jobs that have to do with environmentally friendly technology - a technician with the training to help install a wind generator, someone who retrofits the house for more energy efficiency and so on. While these pay well, the white collars wonder if they couldn't get in on the action. All these green businesses these days need a whole new crew of green and environmentally savvy managers; and the community college continuing education system is rushing forward with new courses, degree programs and what have you, to fill demand.

Energy efficiency is such an important area to the economy now that the federal government is really throwing its might behind it in training the country for it - there is a half billion being invested in the sector. They might as well - it's going to employ an additional million people over the next 10 years. The potential isn't lost on people who are unhappy in their present jobs; and at any community college, continuing education programs in the form of two-year degrees are being put into place as quickly as possible. These will train people to be the managers who will supervise the manufacture of the new materials that will go into green energy products, the ones who will supervise how they are deployed, and the ones who will help protect our environment from energy production pollution.

Anyone working in a field that could benefit from some environmental awareness can sign up for a community college continuing education degree to learn about the latest that's possible in improving the environmental impact of their particular field. It certainly would look good on their resume too. What do these degrees sound like? Some of these are called associate degrees in applied sciences and you could specialize in renewable energy, water conservation, you name it. When these courses first started, Clean hadn't really caught on in the business world. The best that they could offer was training for managers who would need to run a firm that catered to the household energy conversion market. Now that businesses can think of nothing but changing their set ways when it comes to energy usage, the community college continuing education market is really beginning to take off.

Some of these programs will even get help from the federal stimulus program for education in green jobs. Look for community colleges with such an affiliation in place, and you could get $2500 off your tuition, and complete your degree in less time. Most of these programs, solar energy management, environmental planning, environment management and so on, are taken by students who are about 35 years of age; since these are technology courses, a certain amount of tolerance for math and physics will absolutely be required. But it's really heartening; the more the country believes in continuing education, and in people picking themselves up, dusting themselves off and learning new skills - math at that - this country will be all right. The best part is, there are hundreds of community colleges offering these courses, and many of these can even be completed online. All you need is a high school degree to get on board, and it could be your ticket to a new and rewarding career.

Learn More About Credit Cards with Credit Education Programs

It is not a secret that credit debt is a big issue in America. Consumers are not able to make their monthly credit payments. Banks suffer tremendous losses that have already led to a financial crisis. And consumer debt is still increasing.

Who is to blame for this situation? There are two possible answers. Many Americans are financially ignorant and careless. They care only about buying things not about paying for them. Studies have shown that a significant percentage of college students believe that it is unnecessary to pay for things purchased with credit cards. Debtors are not able to make payments because they have poor personal finance management skills.

But most Americans blame the banks. Financial institutions tried their best to entice people with their credit offers. Even a college kid with no income could receive a plastic with an impressive credit line.

To retrieve character major banks have launched credit education programs. These programs are meant to give consumers better understanding of what credit cards are and how to use them wisely. They also provide financial counseling for those who need to improve bad credit.

Here are the programs major lenders have for you today.

American Express offers educational materials as a part of its Be Smart about Credit Program. Consumers are encouraged to read detailed information on credit cards in the Consumer Resources section of their official website. You can also find information about respective government agencies and consumer groups.

Chase has put a lot of effort into making credit Clear and Simple for its clients. They are taught to manage personal finances in general and credit card accounts in particular. The website contains convenient tools that help to calculate how much you will have to pay for a particular credit deal.
The Guide to Using Credit Wisely by Discover includes information on various aspects of credits. You can read comprehensive articles on how to understand terms and conditions, protect your account from identity theft and other important issues. Any visitor can also use free online tools to calculate which credit card will give more bonuses.

Master Card offers a program for consumers in debt called Debt Know How. Professional advice is available for those in need. This program is especially popular because it helps Americans to fight credit debt that is really a problem nowadays. The materials are available in both English and Spanish.

Of course, these educational programs are not enough. Many consumers still find credit card terms and conditions too confusing. Public education does not provide young Americans with skills and knowledge needed for successful personal finance management. There is still a way to go in educating Americans about credit.

Latent Biases in Autism Educational Programs and Their Effect on Development

In matters concerning the capabilities of those on the autism spectrum, the vast degree of variation in these individuals makes it difficult (or impossible) to design an 'all encompassing' educational program. The amount of time and energy involved in designing, manufacturing and advertising a product, is inherently counterintuitive to this reality. I can tell you that it is very challenging to handle the numerous issues which arise from creating and producing a product for mass consumption. This being the case, many products are, therefore related to a specific learning group which may represent a certain segment of the autistic community.

Many students with autism will respond well to typical materials, yet require specialized instructional techniques to help them be successful. Others will benefit from a complete redesign of the teaching materials. Still other students with autism may require minute changes to the curriculum or the environment to help them understand. When one comes to terms with this reality, there truly is no individual technique or approach that would benefit the entire spectrum of individuals with autism; but this is not how autism related products are sold or promoted.

It may be too hard in certain cases and many times it is - yet they all deserve the chance to try.

A particularly frustrating example of this recently came to my attention. A certain 'system' of instruction I found which claimed that, "This autistic piano education program uses 'play by ear' techniques and bypasses teaching students how to read musical notes." For those of you unfamiliar with note reading and playing by ear, I will give a brief explanation. Traditionally, all students of music are taught to read musical notation for several reasons, including; having the ability generalize this knowledge to other instruments, play more and more complex pieces, and fine tune spatial comprehension and processing skills. Playing the piano by ear is also a skill typically taught to most students in addition to reading, as a way to help better understand tonalities and basic song structure.

Making these decisions ahead of time... is tantamount to discrimination and should be reviewed very carefully.

The reason this raised a red flag for me, is simply that - why should we ever assume that a child with autism can't read musical notes! Yes, it may be relatively more difficult for them and yes the attempt may even at some point fail, but this should not predetermine their chances of success! Those of us who work with or provide care for individuals with autism already understand this. Assumptions made on any individual's ability level will most likely waste time and is probably a biased conclusion. I do not believe these, in my view unethical, programs are developed with malice - rather, it is more a lack of fundamental knowledge of special education, the autism community and basic scientific theory in general which allows programs such as this to take shape. While these programs are, no doubt, a result of teachers doing their best to educate the autism community, withholding these educational practices (for whatever reason) is counterproductive in my view and speaks more to the need to educate the population in general of just what these students are capable of!

When I think back on all of the relative leaps and bounds made by my students in the area of reading musical notation, it is troubling to consider that other instructors may have 'bypassed' this because it seemed too hard for them. It may be too hard in certain cases and many times it is - yet they all deserve the chance to try. A simple and objective analysis of their performance over time will clearly indicate whether or not the approach at teaching reading music is working and decisions can be made how best to proceed at that point. Making these decisions ahead of time, before even any teaching has taken place, is tantamount to discrimination and should be reviewed very carefully by consumers and educators.

Five Fun Educational Programs That You Should Download

Five Fun Educational Programs

This is a list of five educational programs that can be a lot of fun. Educational programs aren't just for kids, people of all ages can enjoy these programs and enjoy learning new information. Here are five programs that in my opinion you should download. They are in no particular order.

1. Seterra

This is a fun little program. Seterra has many different exercises for learning geography. For instance, there are quizzes on country capitals, state capitals, major cities, country flags, mountains and volcanos, etc.

My personal favorite exercise is where you try to identify numerous countries by clicking on a blank map. It's a great way to get good at identifying countries.

In addition, this program also keeps track of high scores, so you can compete against family and friends. And best of all... it's totally free!

2. Google Earth

This is a program that a lot of people have heard of. But I had to put it here because if you have not used this program, seriously, try it out! Google Earth is an absolutely amazing program full of lots of information. And there is so much information constantly being added.

With Google Earth, you can view satellite maps of the world. But it's not just that, you can see pictures all over the world (some of them 360 views), links to youtube videos, links to wikipedia entries, traffic conditions, etc. etc. etc.

Seriously... In the time it would take for me to explain what all Google Earth has, you could have already downloaded it. Just go download it.

3. Real Lives

This is a fun little program. Basically... you get to live the life of a person in the world. You can pick the country and create your character, or have your character randomly picked.

To some, this may sound a lot like the Sims, but it isn't like the Sims at all. In Real Lives you can't actually see your character. You don't control his daily actions. Each turn simulates one year. But you can pick your characters career, hobbies, finances, relationships, etc.

Where the educational value comes in is how much you learn from trying to have your character succeed in various countries. The country you live in will really affect how your character does. For example, in the past I have had characters in the United States who did really well career wise. I've had other characters in Africa that died in the first few years from disease. I've also had characters that were involved in social activism that were executed in various countries with dictators. Like I said, the country your character lives in will affect a lot how they live, and in the process you learn a lot about how people live around the world.

The only downside to this program is that it is only free to try. Unless you buy it, there is an opening screen with a delay. But I still recommend checking it out. And want a challenge? Try creating a character in a country like Somalia and getting them to live till they are 80. Good luck on that one. ;)

4. WorldWide Telescope

This is an awesome program put out by Microsoft. I am going to keep the description for this program simple. Basically you can see a real map of the nightsky full of real pictures. Think of like google earth but looking at the sky. See a galaxy that's in the sky that you like? Find it on this program and zoom in to find some closeup photos of the galaxy from the Hubble Telescope. If you have any kind of interest in Astronomy, download this!

5. MyHeritage Family Tree Builder

This is a GREAT program for building your family tree. I absolutely love this program and I've been using it for awhile now. I have imported many GEDCOM databases into a giant database for my family tree. I have thousands and thousands of distant relatives listed on it. How am I related to some relative that lived 200 years ago across the country? This program will tell me just that and the complete line of how exactly we are related. Very very cool. For getting information about your family tree, I recommend checking out Rootsweb.com

I hope you enjoyed this list. Remember, learning doesn't have to be boring. There are a lot of ways to have fun and learn new information at the same time. Have fun! :)

I have been into computers for over 10 years and I'm the creator of [http://www.EasyTechReviews.com] EasyTechReviews is a website with articles, product reviews, and more. If you would like download links to the programs mentioned in this article, check out EasyTechReviews.com :)

Early Childhood Education Programs: It's Never to Early to Start Learning

Is there young children around your home right now? Running playing, making a mess sometimes, it is a wonderful time in a child's life. They're not old enough to have to attend school, yet they are developing the ability to be able to do so much. You should embrace this stage while it's here, because before you know it it's gone. Something that I wish I would've researched when my daughter was younger was childhood education programs. There are more common today then when my girl was younger. Today parents often pounce on the chance to provide their child with a head start. By placing your kids in an early childhood program they are given the chance to get a feel for what's coming in kindergarten.

If you're one of those parents that is considering an early childhood education program good for you. It's a great way to propel your son or daughter. The more they learn at an early age the better off they are as they progress into public of private schools. They'll be introduced to curriculum's, and the different learning processes. There are a lot of kids that enter the public school system when they are four or five and have trouble adjusting to what's exactly going on. Of course this is because they're only interaction each day has been with their parents, now suddenly there are hundreds of other children, and only one teacher to instruct. Often kids don't take well to this scenario right away.

If you enroll your child in an early childhood education program you will help show your children exactly what to expect when they do reach public school. You'll likely have a greater success rate of your child adjusting well when they enter school as well.

Now if you don't want to place them in early childhood education programs there are other options. Another wonderful way for your child to get a head start is with the Internet. The online world is loaded up with educational games to help teach your child new things in a fun way. I encouraged my daughter to play these games when ever she wanted from age four on. Some of these games she still enjoys playing today even at age eight.

If you are considering enrolling your son or daughter in early childhood education programs I recommend you do some research online to see what is available in your area. You'll likely find numerous websites and find the perfect program for your child close by. It's never to early for them to start learning, and hopefully they'll never stop.

The Development Of Better Education Programs

The importance of formal & better education to any student cannot be emphasized any further. In the current world, it would almost be impossible to communicate or even carry out any business or economic activities without better education. This is the reason why almost everyone strives to get some basic education regardless of the prevailing circumstances.

Since the beginning of time, people have been taught but the styles of teaching have been undergoing some transformation. This is only natural since almost everything is changing in line with the times. Technology in particular is playing a leading role in pioneering the changes that we are witnessing in all fronts

With advanced technological innovations, it has become relatively easy to teach people new things using the various platforms that not only enable easier teaching practices but also expand the scopes within which one can be able to teach or learn. With the new technology, it has become relatively easy to teach students in a remote setting with the new internet based learning programs.

This has become a major boost to many students who were hitherto inhibited from accessing education due to their inability to reach the teaching institutions for one reason or the other. Expenses that have been incurred in the older methods of teaching such as the purchase of books and stationery have been massively reduced by the introduction of technological methods that do not involve the use of papers for academic documentation.

The need to improve the opportunities available to many students to learn has been a major driving force behind the creation of new learning systems. For many students who aspire to enroll into academic programs, the main inhibiting factor has been the timing and the mandatory requirements for physical presence at the learning institution.

This however is greatly changing with new methods and the situation has benefited a good number of students who are able to enroll in programs even though they may not be physically present at the institution due to the introduction of online learning programs. Of course the cost of the same has also to come down since a number of features and facilities that had to be incorporated into a learning system can be easily substituted by the new programs.

Interactive exposure between the student and teacher at all levels of learning is a major factor that many people tend to ignore without ever realizing how much it influences the outcome of the learning program. Close interaction between the student and teacher helps the two to understand each other and thereby enhancing better understanding of the courses or curriculum being taught.

In a less interactive system as was the case before the introduction of the better education programs, it was rather difficult to know the areas where a student needed specialized attention or even to discover if a student had any special talents that could easily be nurtured into great things ion future. It is therefore worth noting that the new setup has been very instrumental in the individual development of each and every student since the teacher is able to monitor the progress of everyone in the program. All this done simply to provide better education for every student.

Distance Education Programs and Why You Must Be Informed

The beauty of distance education programs is that you can bring an end to the process you are studying any time you need to. If you are a fast learner, a program can be finished even before the predetermined end time. You're the person who fixes the momentum of your learning.

Various customary universities offer these programs to help pupils who are not able to attend their classes in person. You might be not able to partake of the campus experience of a particular school as a result of private troubles. Nonetheless it affords you the prospect to study whenever you feel like, wherever you desire.

These program takes out a number of overheads. As a pupil, you will not pay accommodation cost. Your expense of running to and fro a campus is drastically lessened. Some of these are the reasons why several people continue to register from all locations of the globe.

Chatting on the Information superhighway is not actually a beloved technique for exchanging massive hints in distance education. Unless you can do away with the typing and employ just the voice option, you are not likely to have the benefit of it. If your lecturer insists, though, you haven't a choice.

Program blocking is an ever increasing practice for distance education programs. Majority of lecturers use software that are capable to effectively thwart the functions of additional software or programs on the same notebook computer. This is accomplished mostly to curb test conditions for the pupils as long as the tests are moving on.

Distance education cannot be concluded if you are not in the right frame of mind for it. Pupils need to comprehend that they will not be able to associate with fellow students or the instructor like an on campus program allows them. As a result, it takes a great deal of control of yourself to be able to accomplish your desired program successfully.

The fact that distance education is flexible has endeared it to several human beings. It does not dictate to you...you fix the time you feel like to study and learn. How much better can education be, particularly for a busy manager or nursing mother with very tiny time on their hands?

Five Principles an Effective Educational Program Must Follow to Change Criminal Behavior

In this article, we take a look at five important principles involved in designing an educational program to teach Blue, Gold, Green, and Orange offenders how to improve their behavior once they are released from jail, prison, or probation. Failing to pay attention to these factors will dramatically hinder rehabilitation success.

Principle #1: Most programs designed to help offenders change their behavior are based on traditional educational strategies.

Examine the classic drug campaign, "Just say no." It speaks to those who see "no" as a viable option. Nontraditional learners respond to "Just say no" with a resounding "How do you spell it?" In the same way, most cognitive restructuring and life-skills programs utilize traditional educational paraphernalia such as overhead projectors and transparencies.

Many are based on a lecture format with slight variations on the old theme of teacher talks while student listens or student talks while everyone else listens. This "one versus everybody" approach rarely generates the personal involvement necessary to create an intrinsic bond with the material or skills being taught.

Principle #2: Skill-based programs must provide a balanced educational approach.

In education, as well as corrections, we keep getting ourselves caught in a cyclic time warp. We are presently entering the period where we are beginning to reuse the failed programs and philosophies of the 1960s. We have witnessed the staggering increases in crime during our more recent "lock 'em up" period and therefore many are looking elsewhere for answers.

The key to success is not to abandon altogether former approaches by jumping from bandwagon to bandwagon. It is by adopting sound educational philosophies that have proven to be successful. Typically, these successes have come from creating a balanced attack.

From the traditional educational approaches, we need to hold people accountable and be accountable ourselves. We need to become more competency-based and result-oriented. From the non-traditionalist, we need to involve the whole person in the process. We need to make things immediately practical and usable. We need to allow for process and not be more concerned with product.

Principle #3: We need to stop spending our precious resources on offenders who are trying to con the system.

Offenders that ruin the opportunity for others to learn should not be tolerated in programs. Ways should be found to make it less rewarding for them to disrupt the process so that those who wish to apply themselves can become the real winners. We spend entirely too much time dealing with troublemakers at the expense of those who are looking for a positive way out of their present situation. As heartless as it may seem, it is often necessary to sacrifice the one for the needs of the whole.

Principle #4: External changes last only as long as a person in under supervision or in custody.

Programs look good when an individual feigns compliance to reduce the pressure placed on them. When the pressure to perform is lifted, all motivation to comply is also lost. Though it may look like a change has been made on the surface, in reality, nothing changes and the individual uses the same old con to get what they want.

These programs must generate deep personal involvement in order to crate the internal atmosphere necessary to motivate a lasting change. This approach must not be superficial; rather it must be deep-rooted and cause serious introspection and self-examination.

Principle #5: Lasting change is internal.

Programs that generate this serious introspection and self-examination can create internal change. This type of change is difficult to achieve but it is wonderful to witness. It is when the lights turn on and a person realized they have the ability to open up new worlds of personal discovery. Witnessing this type of intrinsic change is often the goal of individuals who have chosen this profession. It need not to happen so rarely and can be greatly enhanced by making sure that these then factors are considered carefully before implementing a cognitive/life-skills program.

Cooperative Education Programs and College Work Study Help Students Seeking Money for College

Many students in the U.S. turn to part-time work as a way to help fund their college education. The Federal Work-Study Program, administered through the Office of Federal Student Aid, is a form of student financial aid that allows a student to work in exchange for a portion of their financial aid money.

Cooperative education is an increasingly popular type of program in which universities help match students with flexible, school-friendly jobs with organizations and business. Research shows that employers value job experience in new employees. Cooperative education is usually more long-term than the traditional summer internship, and can help students transition between school and work.

If you receive a Federal Work-Study award in your financial aid package, the first place to look is your college's work-study listings on its website. Colleges typically offer a variety of jobs for work-study students, ranging from managing sports equipment to working in the dining hall to taking care of lab rats. Work-study jobs are required to pay above federal minimum wage, but are not usually very highly paid or skilled jobs. Depending on the job, you may have to submit a resume or interview.

If you don't get a work-study job right away, ask your advisor and other professors if they know of any opportunities. Sometimes departments have extra work-study money and can create more skilled positions.

Some colleges arrange with local nonprofit organizations to offer off-campus jobs for work-study students. These jobs are usually more skilled than on-campus jobs and offer a great opportunity to build your resume while earning money for college. They are also more competitive and may require previous volunteer or work experience.

No work-study award? You'll have to wait until after the work-study students have had a chance to find jobs, usually about a month into the semester. Unfilled jobs are then opened to all student applicants.

If your college or university offers a cooperative education program, this may be the best way to gain valuable work experience while attending school. Cooperative education jobs are particularly common for technical students, such as engineering majors.

There are two common types of cooperative education program. One involves alternating a semester of school with a semester of work, repeating the cycle until graduation. The parallel model requires spending equal amounts of time on school and work in a given semester. In the parallel model, seminars and other programs can be used to connect school and work.

Only a few colleges offer full cooperative education programs, but internships are an important experience for many college students. Unlike normal jobs, internships rarely pay more than a small stipend, but a summer internship can be an invaluable experience.

College career centers, professional organizations, and nonprofits like the Student Conservation Association all provide internship lists, and your career center advisors can help you find appropriate internship opportunities. If you have a list of organizations you're interested in, check their websites for internship openings. Even if no intern positions are listed, you may be able to create a position for yourself.

Work-study, cooperative education jobs, and internships are more than just a way to help pay for your college education - they're valuable sources of work experience that will help you find a job after college. They can also help you choose or confirm your major and future career goals.

Options for Welding Education Programs

The process of joining metal together in a functional way is called welding. This old and most prevalent way to work with metal provides students with many options for welding education programs and study. Students can enter programs at the vocational level to fully understand the field of welding.

There are numerous methods used to weld metal together and students have the option of choosing programs that cover one major area or multiple areas. A combination program may be the best choice for students who wish to have more career options upon completion. Focused programs are very useful to become highly proficient in one welding technique, which makes students specialized and able to advance within the profession. Some main options available through welding schools and colleges include:

*ARC Welding

This type of welding is the simplest and most used method. Professionals use a general power supply to generate an electrical current that heats and connects two pieces of metal together.

*TIG Welding

Tungsten Inert Gas or TIG welding is used to create a very precise weld on all metals. The use of an electrode heats metal while under the protection of a shielding gas, usually Argon, to remove any contaminants from the weld.

Other areas of study can lead students to work exclusively with pipe welding. According to the Bureau of labor Statistics there are over 100 procedures that can be used to weld metal together. This fact alone makes the need for education even greater. When deciding on a vocational college students need to first determine what level of education they want to pursue. Students that want to work through a certificate or associate's degree program can find many program options in vocational schools.

Welding certificates are usually short and highly specific. Practical training focuses on giving students practice with welding and blueprint reading. Many programs offer students training in pipe welding where they learn the four common welding positions; horizontal rolled, fixed, inclined, and vertical. Students can expect to complete two semesters of introductory welding principles. Maintenance welding, print reading, and arc welding are the prominent areas explored inside a certificate program. Students can pursue more education or enter jobs in industrial technology or construction companies.

Associate's degree programs are highly common and the best way to enter the field prepared. Relevant coursework is integrated with many hours of hands-on experience conducting welding projects. The technical, safety, and practical uses of welding are covered as students work through different phases. Students work with one welding procedure and then move on to another one. Many programs have a section where students learn how to use multiple welding practices to connect different structures together.

Both accredited educational options prepare students to work in the industry by providing them with the specific technical skills needed. The American Council for Construction Education ( http://www.acce-hq.org/ ) can fully accredit qualifying welding schools that offer the best training. Education is available from many schools and students can begin training once a program is selected.
